Wattay Int' l Airport nearly completes as schedule

 (KPL) The improvement of Wattay Int' l Airport to bear landing and taking off large-sized planes to participate in the upcoming 9th ASEM hosted by the Lao Government, scheduled on 5-6 November is now completed by 80 %.

The Wattay Int�l Airport, one out of many improvement and new construction project in Vientiane Capital is currently under the support of government.

The framework of improvement project including parking area for 25 large and mid-sized planes ranging from Boeing737, Airbus A320 to Boeing747, the turn way for Boeing747, pavement of a two-layer asphalted road surrounding the airport, airport fence electricity system and waste water drainage system.

On 23 April, Head of Airport Improvement Project, Mr. Sengsa-nguan Chanthavong told that this project started improving in November 2011 under the supervision of the Department of Civil Aviation, which was carried out by a sub-contracting company �China CAMC Engineering� worth US$37.6 million (about 300 billion kip), funded by Lao Government.

The progress of current three main improvement works has been reported to calculate for 80% complete. The percentage of each completed work including the infrastructure of runway is 70% and the runway-light is 85%.

The construction work of a new office of Department of Civil Aviation and an air traffic control calculates for 75%. However, Mr. Sengsa-nguan confirmed than the improvement work will be finished as schedule, on September before opening the ASEM 2012.

Presently, the construction work was operating all-round clock, he said.
