President Choummaly Sayasone offers condolences on death of Kim Jong-Il
President Choummaly Sayasone yesterday visited the Emba ssy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Laos and signed the official book of condolence for the late DPRK leader Kim Jong- Il on behalf of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the government and Lao people.

President Choummaly, who is also Secretary General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the National Defence and Security Committee, was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Thongloun Sisoulith and other Party Central Committee members.
The President offered his "deepest condolences" over the death of the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, Kim Jong-Il, who died on December 17.
“The passing away of comrade Kim Jong-Il is the loss of a great leader of the Party, government and people of the DPRK. It is also the loss of a close comrade and friend of the Party, government and people of the Lao PDR,” the President's message read.
“I would like to share our deep sadness with the executive committee of the WPK, government and people of the DPRK and with the family and relatives of comrade Kim Jong-Il,” the President noted in the book.
The Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1974.
