Lao Brewery Company's arts scholarships awarded
(KPL) The Lao Brewery Company also known as Beerlao, has donated 48.6 million kip worth of scholarships to 20 outstanding fine arts students of the current academic year 2010-2011. The company also supported 10 million kip to the National Institute of Fine Arts.
The fund was handed over at the National Institute of Fine Arts (NIFA) on 29 September between the LBC�s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Tobias Andersen to the Head of the NIFA, Mr. Maysing Chanbouthdy.
The funds would be given to students with poor status but with good study results. The scholarships are hoped to help lessen the expenditure burden on their parents.
�Development of education in Laos is a flagship one for the country and lift the country off the poverty status. Therefore it is necessary to provide more opportunities to the poor and disadvantaged students to help them gain access to better education,� said the LBC�s Assistant to the Managing Director, Mr. Bounkanh Kounlaboun.
The scholarships are part of the implementation of the company�s commitment to improve and promote educational development in the 47 poorest districts countrywide.
Witnessing the event were Mr Bounthieng Siripaphanh, Director General of the Department of Fine Arts, Ministry of Information and Culture, teachers and students as well as relevant officials of both sides.
