Eight Killed, 35 Injured in Laos Sleeping Bus Crash on Route to Pakse
Bolikhamxay Province, Laos – April 22, 2026 — At least eight people were killed and 35 others injured after a sleeping bus crashed in central Laos early Wednesday morning, according to local reports.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. in Namdua village, Pakkading district, Bolikhamxay province. The bus was traveling from Vientiane to Pakse when the crash happened.
Authorities said there were 48 people on board, including the driver and a crew member. Among the eight victims was one foreign national.
Emergency responders transported the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment. The condition of several victims has not yet been officially confirmed.
According to Lao Patthana Newspaper, preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by slippery road conditions due to rainfall, combined with the bus traveling at a high speed.
Officials are continuing their investigation into the crash. Road accidents involving long-distance buses remain a serious safety concern in Laos, particularly during bad weather and overnight travel.
