"LAO NEW YEAR" draws 25% more of foreign tourists

(KPL) The number of tourist arrivals in Luang Prabang province during the celebration of Lao New Year �Pimai� soared 25 %.

The attractions of the traditional celebration in the former ancient royal capital are attributed to various tourism sites of historical, natural and cultural values.

Mr Vanpheng Itthiphon who is in charge of the provincial tourist statistic sector, said that the ten-day celebration of Lao New Year from 10 to 19 April in Luang Prabang drew over 22,000 local visitors and foreign tourists, over 6,400 of whom were foreign tourists.

Luang Prabang � regional tourist jewel in northern Laos, generated nearly US$14 million. If compared to last year�s same period, the number of visitors increased by 4,491.
