VIENTIANE — The Lao National Assembly voted to elect former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith as the country’s new Prime Minister during the second ordinary session of its 10th legislature.
The election marks a significant transition in the top leadership of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Outgoing Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, who had held the post since late 2022, was elected as the new President of the Lao National Assembly.
