Deputy Prime Minister Somsavath visits Oudomxay

(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad on May 18 visited Oudomxay province to inspect the implementation of the so-called "Three-Build Directive"in Ban Namhang group, Xay district, Oudomxay province.
The Three-Build Directive has been devised to decentralize the development process, building up provinces as strategic decision-making institutions, districts as enforcing units in all regards and villages as development targets.
Oudomxay has chosen Ban Namheng group for the experiment on the implementation of the Three-Build's party policy, focusing on basic infrastructure development- mainly roads, electricity, safe water facilities, dispensaries, schools, cash crop farming and animal husbandry, according to Governor of Oudomxay Khamla Lingnasone.
Namhang Group, which is dominated by Kmu ethnic people, has seven villages and 183 households. Of which 24 households are under poverty line.
Talking with local authorities and people, Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad urged a bigger effort to help people earning at least US$ 2 per day per person, so to achieve the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 and graduate the Lao PDR from the UN�s list of Least Developed Countries by 2020.
He asked local authorities to pay attention to the exploitation of land resources, in large scale through animal farming projects to ensure land efficiency, and exhorted local people to participate in preserving tourist sites, especially those that represent their own identity, in order to attract more visitors to Oudomxay province.
After a talk with local authorities, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the 15,827 m-long Chome Ong Cave, in Chome Ong village, Xay district, 45 km far from the provincial administration centre.
